Azelis expands Spanish nutraceuticals footprint through Solchem Nature acquisition
Azelis has acquired 100% of Solchem Nature’s shares to grow its footprint in the Spanish nutraceuticals market. The specialty chemicals and food ingredients supplier will benefit from an expanded portfolio of sustainable ingredients and diversified distribution of its principals’ products, thanks to Solchem’s broader reach of over 250 customers in the nutraceutical market.
Azelis strategy has explicitly targeted growing its market share in Spain, boosting its EMEA nutraceutical platform.
Based in Barcelona, Solchem was founded in 1994 to distribute raw materials for the dietary sector. The company later expanded its portfolio to include a wide range of premium ingredients and formulations for the nutraceutical market.
The acquisition follows Azelis’ takeover of Hortimex in September, which boosted its presence in the Polish nutraceutical and food ingredients sectors.
Extensive Iberian nutraceuticals portfolio
With a team of 14 staff members, Solchem brings an extensive nutraceutical portfolio to the Iberian market. Azelis states: “Backed by long-standing relationships with well-known principals in the industry, it is a valuable contribution to Azelis’s lateral value chain.”
“The acquisition presents principals with new opportunities for growth and customers with a wider range of products to innovate with.”

Jose Manuel González, general manager at Solchem Nature, comments: “Joining forces with Azelis is not only an exciting growth opportunity for Solchem but also a natural fit. We share a strong innovation-driven culture, rooted in a commitment to excellence toward our principals and customers.”
Javier Pérez, managing director at Azelis Iberia, adds: “We are excited to welcome Solchem to the Azelis team. Our combined capabilities significantly strengthen Azelis’ position in the highly attractive nutraceutical market. With common values and the same entrepreneurial and collaborative spirit, I’m convinced we will successfully continue to unlock the nutraceutical market’s untapped potential together.”
In other recent moves, Azelis entered a new exclusive distribution agreement between its subsidiary Gillco Ingredients and FrieslandCampina Ingredients in the US. The deal widens the distribution of FrieslandCampina Ingredients’ Biotis Health Benefit Solutions for gut, brain, and immune health support. The Gillco team offers technical expertise and formulation support for creating functional foods and beverages.
Last October, Azelis entered a distribution agreement with Gattefossé, a leading developer and manufacturer of natural cosmetic ingredients and pharmaceutical excipients for the beauty and health industries.
