“Inside-out” beauty: Exploring the latest nutricosmetic trends and innovations
The ingestible beauty market is undergoing a transformation, driven by growing consumer demand for holistic, science-backed solutions that support beauty from within. Once considered a niche category, supplements targeting skin, hair, and nail health have become mainstream, fueled by rising interest in wellness, clean beauty, and personalized nutrition.
Also, consumers are increasingly aware of the connection between internal health and external appearance, prompting a surge in demand for products that deliver visible results through clinically supported ingredients. Nutrition Insight sits down with experts from Balchem Human Nutrition & Health, Nexira, Seppic, and Sirio to discuss the latest nutricosmetic innovations and trends.
Innova Market Insights’ data suggests that 37% of consumers now take supplements daily for beauty and skin care purposes, with 63% citing skin health as their top motivation. There was also a 12% increase in hair, skin, and nail supplement launches from April 2020 to March 2025.
Leslie Lannebere, global marketing for health at Nexira, says the company has noticed four key trends in the ingestible beauty space.
“Health consciousness (beauty linked to wellness), a holistic mindset (beauty integrated with overall well-being), edible appeal (demand for convenient formats like gummies and powders), and a focus on healthy aging and self-care (prioritizing looking healthy over just young),” she explains.

“Nexira adapts by offering natural, science-backed solutions like Oli-Ola [a nutricosmetic based on organic olive fruit extract] that support these trends, focusing on beauty-from-within for external radiance, and providing versatile, easy-to-use ingredients.”
Virginie Grenier, the nutrition marketing manager at Seppic, states that the market is undergoing an evolution and points to three major trends — “personalization, holistic care, and foodification.”
“This research allows us to understand and address specific male beauty concerns, paving the way for tailored solutions.”Leslie Lannebere, global marketing for health at Nexira.
At the same time, Sirio Europe points out that hydration is becoming a key factor for beauty-from-within solutions, while Balchem Human Nutrition & Health highlights the rise of the “inside-out beauty philosophy.”
“Inside-out” beauty
Expanding the beauty-from-within topic, Jessica Arnaly, senior marketing and business development manager at Balchem Human Nutrition & Health, affirms beauty routines have evolved beyond topical products and consumers are increasingly focusing on nourishing the body from the inside out.
“More people — both men and women — are recognizing the link between outward appearance and internal health, embracing an ‘inside-out’ beauty philosophy,” Arnaly highlights. “Ingestible beauty solutions like supplements and fortified foods have gone from being a nice-to-have to essential tools as part of this more holistic approach to wellness.”
She adds that modern beauty consumers want more than just support for skin, hair, and nails — they’re seeking multifunctional solutions that pair aesthetic benefits with added value, like gut health, mental well-being, and joint mobility.
“Take the glass skin craze, for example — this trend, born in Korea and celebrated worldwide, continues to thrive,” Arnaly explains. “Social media channels continue to be flooded with posts about new solutions that can help achieve dewy, luminous skin that appears almost translucent, but this trend is more than skin-deep — it reflects a broader movement towards prioritizing a healthy and well-nourished skin barrier.”
“Product launches highlighting an increased focus on repairing, strengthening, and maintaining the skin’s natural protective layer and ingredients such as collagen, antioxidant vitamins, and probiotics leading the charge.”
Moreover, she says the growing popularity of GLP-1 medications for weight loss is also influencing the ingestible beauty space. These treatments have fueled discussions around skin health, as significant and rapid weight loss can negatively impact skin elasticity and barrier function — leading to visible side effects commonly referred to online as “Ozempic face.”
Nature’s nutricosmetics
Lannebere at Nexira says that the company’s latest innovation, Oli-Ola, is a completely natural extract derived from olive fruit. She adds that it is packed with antioxidants, such as hydroxytyrosol and tyrosol, which support skin health. A standout feature is its sustainable production — Nexira utilizes upcycled olive oil byproducts, converting waste into a high-value, environmentally friendly active ingredient.Balchem Human Health & Nutrition highlights that men and women alike are embracing an ‘inside-out’ beauty philosophy.
She underscores that Oli-Ola is backed by advanced nutrigenomic research and strong clinical evidence. The company’s proprietary In-Test-Pass model research revealed a 59% reduction in oxidative stress markers and an upregulation of antioxidant defense genes in skin samples. An initial clinical study conducted in Brazil in 2017 also showed significant improvement in dark-spot lightening after 60 days of use.
Also, in a recent placebo-controlled clinical trial involving 132 women, Oli-Ola demonstrated compelling results after 12 weeks. This includes a 13% improvement in skin elasticity, a 12% reduction in trans-epidermal water loss, and visible enhancements in skin radiance, hydration, and clarity.
Lannebere stresses that this shows how Oli-Ola supports a wide range of skin benefits, including anti-aging factors, improved hydration, antioxidant protection, complexion radiance, reduced imperfections, and healthier, more vibrant skin.
“Our strategies focus on clarity and trust,” she emphasizes. “First, by communicating science, we highlight clinical trial results and our In-Test-Pass research to show tangible benefits. Then, we emphasize its responsible sourcing and eco-friendly profile to curate the sustainability storytelling that consumers are demanding. We show how the ingredient can be easily incorporated into various convenient formats like gummies and powders, focusing on its high versatility.”
“At Nexira, we are proud to take part in this movement with natural, sustainable, and scientifically proven ingredients like Oli-Ola. It embodies our vision of empowering individuals to achieve lasting radiance and confidence by nurturing their skin’s health. We are committed to expanding our portfolio to meet the growing demand for effective, holistic, and ethically sourced nutribeauty solutions.”
Focus on hydration
Sara Lesina, the general manager of Sirio Europe, highlights the need for hydration, which she says is increasingly viewed as essential to overall wellness, though only a small portion of consumers say they feel sufficiently hydrated. She adds that with 64% of consumers now linking hydration to overall health, demand is rising for products that support both internal hydration and skin health.
Sirio says its new HydraPearls range offers next-generation formulations for skin hydration.
In response, Sirio launched a new hydration platform that offers advanced nutraceutical formulations with trending branded ingredients designed to meet this dual demand in the growing ingestible beauty market. The company’s new HydraPearls range offers shelf-ready skin hydration solutions with next-generation formulations that combine stability, efficacious doses, branded ingredients, and innovative delivery formats to meet the growing consumer demands for ingestible beauty products.
HydraPearls Glow is a daily softgel made with Ovoderm Eggshell Membrane, which has been clinically shown to enhance skin hydration. It is combined with vitamin C for collagen formation and safflower oil to reduce inflammation, and this formulation supports antioxidant protection and a “luminous” complexion from within.
Furthermore, HydraPearls Vital and Radiance also cater to diverse hydration needs. HydraPearls Vital combines Aker BioMarine’s Superba Boost krill oil, collagen, and hyaluronic acid with B-complex vitamins and safflower oil for improved hydration, elasticity, and hormonal balance. HydraPearls Radiance uses patented Plantegrity technology in a vegan softgel with evening primrose oil, aloe vera, and vitamins A and E to support skin health during menopause and beyond.
At Sirio, we prioritize scientific integrity and efficacy in all our ingestible beauty and other nutraceutical solutions,” Lesina explains. “Our HydraPearls line is built around clinically studied, branded ingredients that are backed by a growing body of research in skin health and hydration.”
“For example, HydraPearls Glow leverages the clinically researched ingredient Ovoderm, a naturally derived eggshell membrane collagen that is backed by more than 20 in vivo and in vitro clinical studies and is shown to support skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.”
“The Superba Boost krill oil in HydraPearls Vital is rich in phospholipid-bound omega-3s, which research has shown can help maintain skin hydration and barrier function. Hyaluronic acid is also well-known for its ability to retain skin moisture and improve texture, making this a powerful combination for inside-out skin support.”Nexira’s Oli-Ola is a nutricosmetic based on organic olive extract.
Meeting personalization demands
Grenier at Seppic says the company is proactively responding to evolving market demands, particularly the rising interest in personalized solutions such as gender-specific products. To support the growth of the men’s health segment, the company recently carried out a targeted consumer study focusing on skin and hair benefits in men using Ceramosides, a gluten-free wheat lipid extract rich in phytoceramides.
She illustrates that holistic care is becoming increasingly important as consumers look for products that support both inner well-being and outer beauty. It recently conducted a consumer study on well-being using Sepibliss, a patented coriander seed extract with skin-soothing properties. The results show that Sepibliss enhances skin comfort and promotes calmness, relaxation, and a “more positive self-perception.”
Also, the growing trend of “foodification” — infusing beauty benefits into enjoyable food and drink — continues to gain momentum. Seppic’s award-winning functional beverage, “Happy Skin & Mind,” features Sepibliss and offers holistic support while targeting the specific needs of urban, active women. The company says the drink reflects the convergence of wellness, personalization, and convenience in an appealing, ready-to-consume format.
Seppic’s ingestible beauty ingredients address a broad spectrum of skin and hair concerns. Ceramosides support hydration, elasticity, wrinkle reduction, and hair health, with recent studies showing added benefits for male consumers, including beard and scalp hair improvement.
Sepibliss also offers multi-protection against daily aggressors like UV rays and pollution while reducing redness and enhancing skin comfort. Additionally, it supports holistic well-being, reinforcing the growing link between inner balance and outer beauty through skin barrier protection.
“Beyond these specific benefits, a crucial focus for us is anti-aging, which remains the number one market segment,” Grenier concludes. “This key concern is now comprehensively addressed by all three of our leading nutricosmetic ingredients: Ceramosides, Sepibliss, and Sepitone, our fermented wild bilberry extract.”
“Each ingredient offers distinct mechanisms of action and additional benefits. For example, a clinical study on Sepitone was published last year substantiating its anti-aging properties, in addition to its skin glow benefits. In a significant continuation of our anti-aging research, the recent study on Sepibliss not only confirmed its skin protection benefits but also, for the first time, its effectiveness in reducing wrinkles depth and improving skin firmness.”
