TSI Group combines vitamin D with myHMB to unlock muscle function and healthy aging
As consumers increasingly seek scientifically-backed supplements for healthy aging, TSI Group highlights its myHMB and vitamin D combination for muscle and mobility health, supported by clinical studies. Supplementation with calcium β-hydroxy-β-methylbutyrate (HMB) and vitamin D also caters to health-conscious consumers by enhancing recovery, improving body composition and supporting strength gains.
Shawn Baier, the company’s VP of business development, tells Nutrition Insight that vitamin D enhances the efficacy of HMB by optimizing its impact on muscle function.
“While myHMB is known for its ability to build lean muscle mass, increase strength and boost recovery, vitamin D plays a critical role in all cellular functions, including muscle function. Research shows that vitamin D is essential for cellular function, performance and bone health.”
“When combined with HMB, vitamin D enhances HMB’s benefits, resulting in improved muscle mass, function, strength and overall recovery,” says Baier.
Baier highlights that multiple studies have demonstrated the dual efficacies of myHMB and vitamin D in improving muscle function in older adults, enhancing recovery and supporting body composition and strength gains. He notes that the synergy allows both nutrients to “outperform their individual benefits.”
In particular, research funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) demonstrates that the combination can “significantly improve muscle function in older adults, even without exercise.”
“TSI Group is positioning myHMB + Vitamin D as a premium, scientifically validated solution in the muscle and mobility health categories,” says Baier. “The formulation is protected by multiple patents, which ensure the correct and efficacious dosages at a minimum of 1,500 mg of myHMB and 500 International Units of vitamin D.”
Muscle function in aging population
TSI Group’s VP says that the combination supports maintaining muscle health, strength and function, and mobility as people age, enabling them to stay active and independent longer. He observes a “strong demand for supplements that support muscle and bone health, especially among aging populations.”
A randomized, double-blind, controlled NIH-funded study published in The Journals of Gerontology showed that the combination enhanced muscle strength and physical functionality in older adults, even those not engaged in an exercise training program.
The myHMB and vitamin D combination also supports holistic health and consumers looking for preventive wellness products. In the 12-month study, researchers evaluated 117 participants’ body composition, strength and functionality. They randomly assigned participants to four groups: a control group with and without exercise and people taking HMB plus vitamin D3 with and without exercise.
In nonexercisers, the researchers found a “significantly greater” improvement in knee extension for participants taking HMB and vitamin D3 and significant increases in their functional index.
“This underscores the combination’s power to support muscle health in sedentary populations,” adds Baier.
Proactive health support
The myHMB and vitamin D combination supports holistic health and consumers looking for preventive wellness products, in addition to catering to athletes and fitness enthusiasts.
This is in line with the expansion of the sports nutrition category to encompass a broader audience as health-conscious consumers look for products to enhance their daily performance and overall well-being.
Baier says it caters to those who prioritize proactive health and maintain overall physical function as they age, due to the combination’s multifunctional benefits in muscle and bone health.
“Younger consumers are investing in preventative health solutions, and myHMB + Vitamin D provides a proactive way to maintain muscle health and vitality throughout life.”
“Clinical studies show that this combination supports faster recovery times by decreasing muscle protein breakdown and increasing muscle protein synthesis. This makes it ideal for individuals recovering from injury, surgery or engaging in intense physical activity,” details Baier.
Additionally, he notes that research highlights that the combination helps “improve body composition and enhance strength and mobility across all major muscle groups.”
In other sports nutrition news, the company’s pre-workout ingredient, Peak ATP, recently received an Informed Ingredient certification that ensures it has been tested for substances banned in sports nutrition products.
